Board of Directors Gay Culverhouse, Ed.D. - Founder, President Dr. Gay Culverhouse, daughter of the original owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers National Football League franchise, spent ten years as a Vice President, then President, of the team. Her concerns for the plight of former NFL players, led her to establish the Gay Culverhouse Players' Outreach Program, Inc., in order to help the retired players access the funds that the NFL makes available to vested retired players with a concentration on those players who are homeless or bankrupt. She was a speaker at the Congressional Judiciary hearing on "Legal Issues Relating to Football Head Injuries" (October, 2009). Dr. Culverhouse earned her doctorate from Columbia University in special education. Sean Farrell - Vice Chairperson Mr. Farrell, a Managing Director and Vice President of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management at Tampa City Center, in Tampa, Florida, brings to our Board a unique business and financial background, as well as a passion to advocate on behalf of former NFL players. Mr. Farrell played college football for Penn State University, where he was named to two All-American teams, and was a first round draft pick for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played for the NFL for over 11 years. As a former player, he has a genuine interest in ensuring that football is made safer for current players, appropriate benefits are made available for all players, and that former players receive assistance so that they can access the benefits to which they are entitled. Jorge Diaz - Secretary Mr. Diaz is a former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys Offensive linemen from 1996 - 2000. He spent two years in the AFL with the Austin Wranglers and Tampa Bay Storm. Mr. Diaz grew up in Katy, Texas where he later played for Kilgore JR College and Texas A & M Kingsville. Since retiring from football, Mr. Diaz has been a Buccaneers Analyst for WTVT Fox 13 and a restaurateur with Flemings Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar. Ken Anthony Mr. Anthony is an Agency Principal with Affinity Insurance Agency in Tampa, Florida. He received his degree from Chapman College in California, and is a military veteran, having served in the United States Air Force. He has served the community as a State Farm Insurance Agent for over twenty years, has been active in conducting seminars on insurance and personal finance, and has worked with churches and organizations to provide information on insurance and related issues. Community involvement is a focal point for Mr. Anthony and through the years, he has had leadership involvement in many community events and organizations, including the Tampa Organization of Black Affairs (TOBA), the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, Hillsborough County Aviation Authority, Hillsborough Community College and the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival.
Staff W. Mitchell Welch - Vice President of Player Personnel Mr. Welch is a private businessman based in Sarasota, Florida. He has a diverse professional background that includes property management, development and agribusiness, among others. Mr. Welch has an extensive history of supporting environmental and endangered species issues as well as the preservation of native Florida habitats. Mr. Welch has worked on behalf of and devoted considerable time and resources to various minorities and disadvantaged groups, and has a special interest in the advocacy of football related health issues. Scot Brantley - Assistant Director of Player Personnel Mr. Brantley is a former linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played with the team from 1980-1987. Mr. Brantley was one of the greatest high school linebackers in Florida history at Ocala Forest, where he led the Wildcats to two straight state championships. He went on to have a successful career at the University of Florida, but suffered a concussion in his senior year and had to sit out the rest of the season. Since retiring from football, Mr. Brantley has pursued a career in broadcasting. His work includes partnering with Gene Deckerhoff on the Buccaneers Radio Network, daily radio shows on WHBO and WQYK-AM, and as a host during pre-game, halftime, and post-game shows for the Gator Radio Network. Patience Smith - Executive Director Miss Smith joins us with over 15 years experience and a diverse background in both corporate and government work. She has a B.S. in Management, with a focus on International Business from Oklahoma State University, and a personal passion for promoting education in both children and adults. As a contractor for NASA Education, she was actively involved in public affairs activities, media events, and community outreach, as well as promoting the astronauts' educational agendas. Her management background and organizational skills make her an integral part of our team. Patience is actively involved in rescue and adoption of animals, and has a strong commitment to her church and local community. She is well traveled throughout the world and across the U.S. and has made the Tampa Bay area her home since 2003.
